Supreme Court Blocks Broadcasting of Proposition 8 Trial
EXODUS Staff - In a 5 to 4 vote United States Supreme Court blocked the broadcasting of the Gay Marriage trial in California. This is a victory for Proposition 8 sponsors Charles J. Cooper of Cooper and Kirk.
The Justices who voted to ban broadcasting were Roberts, Scalia, Kennedy, Thomas and Alito. These Justices ruled District Judge Vaughn R. Walker's broadcast order should be stayed because it appears the courts below didn't follow the appropriate procedures set fourth in Federal Law before making such changes to allow broadcasting to the people because irreparable harm would result from the denial of the stay. Who or whom would be harmed was not specified by the Justices.
It appears the Supreme Court is using the "Chevron deference" in making its decision.
The Los Angeles Times reported defenders of Proposition 8 said "their witnesses could be subjected to harassment and intimidation if they testified in favor of the ban on marriage for gay and lesbian couples."
The defenders of Proposition 8 and the Supreme Court seemed to have overlooked the countless deaths and injuries suffered by gays, lesbians and straight friends over the years by homophobic criminals. To our knowledge there are not a lot of cases out there where gays and lesbians have killed and injured heterosexual people. In fact even if child molesters were placed into this equation, straight criminals have committed more crime than homosexuals criminals.
