AMERICAN
CRAFT COUNCIL CRAFT SHOW
SAN FRANCISCO
BRINGS THE NATION'S BEST TO THE BAY AREA
AUGUST 13-15 AT SAN FRANCISCO'S FORT MASON CENTER
Over 350 top craft artists from across the nation - leaders in the fields of ceramics, jewelry, glass, furniture and wearable art - will come together for three days at the 24th annual American Craft Council (ACC) Craft Show San Francisco, August 13-15, at Fort Mason Center's Herbst & Festival Pavilions, Buchanan Street and Marina Boulevard in San Francisco. The event will showcase the works of established masters, as well as emerging artists, in traditional and contemporary materials.
"Crafts are the fingerprint of a culture, and ACC Craft Show showcases the skill, imagination and vitality characteristic of America in the 1990s," enthuses Joann Brown, director of American Craft Council (producer of the shows).
Today, crafts have become more diverse than at any time in American history. Functional materials are used in unpredictable ways or combined with industrial ingredients to form original objects like wood tea pots, brushed aluminum lamp shades, and tapestries of sewn gold-leaf papers.
The creations are infinitely versatile, rich in character, and filled with distinctive moods colorful, serious, flamboyant or elegant. Necklaces of glistening gold and fine silver, stoneware tureens, shimmering silk scarves, uniquely patterned quilts, exotic wood furniture, brushed steel chairs, delicate porcelain teapots, recycled metal bracelets, woven natural-fiber baskets, forged silverware, sensuous silk blazers, blown glass dinnerware.. and ceramic vessels are among the many one-of-a-kind objects featured.
ACC Craft Show San Francisco is the largest juried craft show in California, featuring 350 crafts-people (selected from more than 1,600 applicants) who travel across the country to exhibit. Each booth exhibits the signatory styles of talented craft artists whose Work shows in galleries across the nation.
The backgrounds of the craft artists are as varied as their works. While many have had extensive formal training in university art departments or in private art schools, others have attended excellent craft schools or specialized workshops - some are even self-taught.
Again this year will be a special complimentary walking tour of the Craft Show. The tour, led by a local expert in the field, will visit selected craftspeople at the show as well as travel through the highlights of the Show. Reservations are required.
