San Francisco 49ers Academy
In a continuing effort to serve and help improve Bay Area communities, Communities In Schools Inc., has joined forces with the San Francisco 49ers and the Ravenswood City School District to open the 49ers Academy.
The 49ers Academy, located in East Palo Alto, serves 101 young men identified as being at-risk of dropping out of school. The 49ers Academy's primary goal is to help kids help themselves stay in schools and be successful in life. Each student is viewed as a unique individual with talents, interests and potential to do well. The 49ers Academy strive to provide the most comprehensive academic, social and emotional services possible in order to prepare its students for high school, college and beyond. The program varies from the more traditional academic settings in the following key ways.
· Social,
health and human services are brought in to the school;
· Active and ongoing outreach to students, parents, and services
outside of the school;
· Smaller class size of 20
· Greater individualized instruction and attention to each and
every student
· A philosophy that "programs don't change kids..relationships
do"
On Wednesday, November 20th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm the San Francisco 49ers will be having a Mentor Recruitment Day. The Academy is searching for African American and Latino males/females to act as BIG BROTHERS/SISTERS to an all male middle school grades 6 thru 8.
If anyone is interested in volunteering their services, please RSVP Mr. Steve Williams Mentor Coordinator at 415-614-4306.
