AMERICAN LEGACY TURNS 10! MAGAZINE HELPS AMERICANS CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY EVERY DAY
New
York, NY (BlackNews.com) - American Legacy, the magazine of African-American
history and culture is celebrating its 10th Anniversary year with the
publication of the Spring 2005 issue.
Rodney J. Reynolds, founder and publisher of American Legacy stated, "We are very excited about reaching this milestone in the life of the magazine. Our goal of creating a resource center for African-American history and culture is being realized."
Reynolds's quest began in 1995 when he partnered with Forbes Inc.'s American Heritage division to publish American Legacy. His strategy of using unique distribution channels including African-American churches and organizations has proven to be successful. After one year of publication, American Legacy became a profitable magazine. Today, the quarterly magazine has a circulation of over 500,000 and a total readership of over 2.2 million. Advertising pages have grown steadily over the past five years. Major advertisers include General Motors, American Family Insurance, Johnson & Johnson and Visit Florida.
In the fall of 2002, American Legacy introduced American Legacy Woman, a supplement to the magazine, which addresses the historical, beauty and lifestyle needs of African-American women. The supplement targets women who are over the age of 35. The magazine also publishes American Legacy, Jr., an African-American history and culture magazine for children in grades four through seven and with New Millennium Studios launched American Legacy Television in 2001. Famed actor, director and producer Tim Reid hosts and produces the nationally syndicated program. In 2003, the magazine introduced its annual healthcare supplement, Healthcare Advantage, which focuses specifically on health issues that face the African-American community.
Reynolds is certainly on his way to achieving his goal of building a powerful brand. "I'm extremely proud of what we've accomplished over the past 10 years. The brands we've developed each provide information that's uplifting, enlightening and is difficult to find elsewhere. Our brands empower not only African-Americans, but all Americans," said Reynolds.
