ARTIST/ACTOR, DR. BERNIE T. CASEY ANNOUNCES IMAGINATION STATION SCHOLARSHIP
Acclaimed artist Dr. Bernie T. Casey announces the release of "Images Imaged from Images Imagined," a limited edition mixed media series to debut at the 1999 Artexpo, March 4-8, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, New York, N.Y. Proceeds from the print sales of the title piece "Images" and the work "Morning" will serve as the foundation of the Imagination Station Scholarship, for talented art students at the distinguished Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) located in Savannah, Ga.
Reproduced in a limited edition of 250, both prints ("Images" and "Morning") will be individually numbered and signed by Dr. Casey. In addition, the purchaser will receive a certificate of authenticity, 10 notecards of the print, Dr. Casey's personal biography and information about the Savannah College of Art and Design. Direct proceeds from each sale will go toward the Imagination Station Scholarship. "I created the Imagination Station scholarship to enable students to pursue their artistic dreams and possibly speak to the viability of the impact exercised upon us by the many and varied images that manifest themselves through the creative efforts of so many people. There is value in seeking truth through imagery," states Dr. Casey.
"It is rather difficult to talk about a painting because it is a visual exercise. The words come from the verbiage one experiences inside oneself upon viewing a painting. The piece 'Images' is about the misrepresentation and injury caused because we are sometimes bludgeoned by the images imaged from images imagined," says Dr. Casey.
Dr. Casey has long been a successful educator, artist and art advocate, receiving an honorary doctor of humanities degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Stan Mazyck, consultant to Artexpo, sees the unveiling of both "Images" and "Morning," along with the celebration of Imagination Station, as one of the highlights of Artexpo. "We are honored to have Dr. Casey and the Savannah College of Art and Design to allow Artexpo to be a part of this scholarship initiative. Dr. Casey has been an influential spokesperson for the arts and we are pleased to have him participate in the largest art exhibition in the United States," Mazyck says.
Imagination Station is envisioned as another avenue to transition students into successful careers in art and establishes a bridge between the professional artist and the emerging student artist. "This initiative by Dr. Casey makes a strong statement about his dedication to nurturing young artists, encouraging each one to continue striving to reach educational goals and develop a personal artistic vision. His example as a successful artist in many milieus inspires us all," states Paula Rowan, Provost of the Savannah College of Art and Design.
Richard Rowan, President of the Savannah College of Art and Design, says, "The leadership Dr. Casey provides to our Board of Trustees, faculty, staff and students propels the college into emerging art fields, challenging us to explore new technologies and means of artistic expression. The success of Dr. Casey and our graduates demonstrates the important role artists play in society."
Casey is a veteran of over 50 motion pictures, television series and films including Never Say Never Again, Under Siege, Another 48 Hours, Revenge of the Nerds, The Martian Chronicles and Deep Space Nine. While one of his most recent ventures is The Dinner, a film he wrote, directed and produced, Casey openly admits that his first love is painting. "Painting is the fulcrum upon which my creative house rests. The inclusion of all the creative instincts that resonate from my spirit get their beginnings from painting ideas. Color, form, shape, balance, rhythm and tension are the genesis of my perceptions. They are integral to painting." Dr. Casey's career as a visual artist spans 30 years and collectors of his original works include Sidney Poitier, Maya Angelou, Bert Reynolds, Quincy Jones and Joseph H. Hirshhorn.
