Lawrence Taylor Arrested On Crack Cocaine Charges ST. PETE BEACH, Florida (Reuters) - Former New York Giants star linebacker Lawrence Taylor was arrested early Monday on charges of purchasing crack cocaine from an undercover police officer. A release issued from the St. Pete Beach Police Department stated that Taylor was arrested in his hotel room at approximately 2:10 a.m. EDT after allegedly purchasing $50 worth of crack cocaine from an undercover officer. Also arrested at the same time as the 39-year-old Taylor was a 41-year-old woman identified as Victoria Corey. After the purchase of the cocaine, Taylor's hotel room was entered by members of the St. Pete Beach Special Response Team. In the room, numerous items of drug paraphernalia were also found, according to the police report. After being charged with purchasing and possession of crack cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Taylor and Corey were transported to the Pinellas County Jail. Taylor spent more than 10 hours in jail before he was released on bond. Monday's arrest is the latest in a series of legal troubles for Taylor, who was named to 10 Pro Bowls and led the Giants to two Super Bowl titles. He retired in 1993. In May of 1996, Taylor was arrested in South Carolina on charges he tried to buy crack cocaine. He was arrested in the summer of 1997 for failing to pay child support payments on time and pleaded guilty to filing a false 1990 federal income-tax return. Taylor, who revolutionized the position of outside linebacker in the 1980's and early 1990's, is eligible for election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year. |
