DARK SKIN ART

Dark Skin ArtTattooing is called the "'ancient art" - in fact, many historians and archeologists believe it may have been humankind's first form of self expression, since there's evidence of tattooing which dates back to 8,000 BC!

The ancient art has roots in no particular society, instead, it's found in the cultures of all peoples. The rising popularity of tattoos in the past decade has reminded us that this is a true folk art-an art of, by, and for the people. Tattoo imagery covers visual traditions from many places and time periods, including right this moment, so there's something in it for everyone.

Unfortunately, a large segment of the tattooed population has all but been ignored-until now.

DARK SKIN ART is the first magazine devoted entirely to tattoos for dark skinned people. In the Premiere Issue, we speak to some artists who tattoo extensively on dark skin to get their tips and advice on getting good work that will last a lifetime. We also explore the biology behind applying pigment into skin, and how that affects different tones.

Dark skin covers a variety of ethnicities - each with their own symbolism and iconography. In the first issue of DARK SKIN ART, we look at some ancient African symbols (and learn their meaning), as well as some up-to-the-minute flash designs. And most importantly, we show you page after colorful page of living works of art!

DARK SKINART is distributed world-wide by Kable News Co., $5.95 per copy. It can also be ordered directly from the publisher, by calling (201) 653-2700.
