The "16th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards" Sparkled With Special Awards, Talented Hosts and Presenters, and Unforgettable Performances

ATLANTA (Jan. 13, 2001) - The "16th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards," held at the Atlanta Civic Center, saluted excellence in gospel music. The show was co-hosted by Ananda Lewis (MTV), Vicki Winans, Dr. Bobby Jones, and Bishop T.D. Jakes. The Stellar Awards recognized devoted producers, performers, and supporters.  Those honored spanned from traditional groups to contemporary groups- such as rap/hip hop and urban inspirational.

The evening sparkled with an opening performance by Kirk Franklin and 1NC which included guest artists Trin-i-tee 5:7, Deborah Cox, Crystal Lewis, Carl Thomas, Tamar Braxton.  Other performers that graced the stage included Aaron Neville, Shirley Caesar, BeBe Winans, Natalie Wilson & the S.O.P Chrorale featuring rapper Rodney Jerkins, and T.D. Jakes'The Potter House Choir.

Brandy Norwood accepted the Most Notable Achievement Award for her work with Norwood's Kids. The Williams Brothers accepted the James Cleveland Award, which recognized their innovative efforts in the field of traditional gospel music. Yolanda Adams swept by taking home five of the golden-flame awards.  MaryMary was the second big winner, garnering four awards.

Several celebrities - such as Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Kelly Price, Keith Sweat, Malcolm Jamal Warner, Shaun Robinson (Access Hollywood), Woody (Dru Hill), singer Howard Hewitt, comedian Jonathan Slocomb, Judge Glenda Hatchett, and Gary Sheffield (L.A. Dodgers) - were in attendance to enjoy this one-of-a-kind, televised gospel awards show.

The "16th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards" is executive produced by Don Jackson, produced by Barbara Wilson and directed by Alan Carter for Central City Productions.  Chevrolet and American Airlines were the official sponsors.

The two-hour live broadcast will air in national syndication from January 14 through February 11, 2001.
